The United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) is now accepting applications for its three fellowship programmes: UNU-IAS PhD Fellowships, UNU-IAS Postdoctoral Fellowships, and JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowships.

We have funding for a PhD studentship on an EU Project on Low-head Hydropower.

PhD Opportunity in Low-head Hydropower at UNESCO-IHE, Delft UNESCO-IHE`s Department of Water Engineering has the opportunity for a suitably qualified student to study for a PhD on Low-head Hydropower.

The work is part of a European Uni project led at UNESCO-IHE by Nigel Wright http://www.unesco-ihe.org/users/prof_n_g_wright_phd/
Professor of Hydraulic Engineering and River Basin Development.

The project will involve the use and developed of advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics to optimise turbines used in Low-head Hydropower. Use will be made of commercially available software with suitable adaptation and simulations will be carried out on a dedicated PC cluster. Investigation is also required on the development and implementation of the technology for developing countries.

The project covers tuition fees and a maintenance allowance and is open to students of any nationality. The successful applicant will need to satisfy the admission regulations of UNESCO-IHE

The MRC Centre for Genomics and Global Health is developing a unique PhD programme that will provide interdisciplinary training in statistical genetics, bioinformatics and population genetics, and the opportunity to apply these skills to cutting edge research on major diseases of the developing world.

Four studentships are available to start in October 2008. They will be based at Oxford University but students will be encouraged to develop collaborative research projects at the Centre’s partner institutions at the MRC Laboratories in The Gambia, the KEMRI – Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kenya, the Wellcome Trust Programme in South-east Asia and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in the UK. Each studentship covers full course fees and research costs, together with an annual stipend (currently £12,600 per annum).

Candidates from all countries are eligible to apply for the studentships. Applications are particularly encouraged from talented candidates from the regions where the Centre operates in Africa and Asia.

The funding is for 4 years. The first year of the programme will be tailored to the individual’s background and will involve taught courses linked to the new Oxford doctoral training programme in Genomic Medicine. There may also be opportunities to take modules from the MSc in Applied Statistics or the MSc in Bioinformatics. During the first year students will be able to develop their research focus by working alongside the Centre’s Informatics Fellows in The Gambia, Kenya, Viet Nam or Thailand.

After completing the first year’s training, students will undertake a research project linked to one or more of the Centre’s partner institutions. They will typically have two supervisors, at Oxford University and at the partner institution. The aim is to encourage students to work on multi-centre collaborative projects, and to use the PhD training programme to build capacity across a wider research network.

The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Scholarships are a component of the Australian Leadership Awards, a regional program under the Australian Scholarships initiative. Australian Leadership Awards aim to develop leadership, build partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific.

They are intended for those who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. The ALA program comprises of Scholarships and Fellowships.

ALA Scholarships are academically elite awards offered to high achievers from the Asia-Pacific region each year to undertake postgraduate study (Masters or Doctorate) and a Leadership Development Program in Australia.
Selection for ALA Scholarships is highly competitive, based on leadership qualities and on academic excellence.

ALA Scholarships are an investment in the future of the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, ALA scholars are required to return to their home country or the region for two years after they have completed their studies.

In future years, ALA scholars will belong to a unique group – the Australian Scholarships Alumni Network (ASAN) – that will maintain strong and enduring links to Australia. Objectives of ALA Scholarships

Levels of study

An ALA Scholarship enables candidates to undertake studies leading to a Masters or Doctorate degree in Australia. It does not include Graduate Diplomas, with the exception of those Masters courses that require the completion of a Graduate Diploma as part of the Masters degree.
Who should apply

Outstanding applicants with:

* a very high level of academic achievement at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
* a high level of English language proficiency
* demonstrated leadership potential and good prospects to influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes in their home country and in the Asia-Pacific region

The Sampoerna Foundation Overseas MBA Scholarship is a means to groom Indonesia’s future business leaders. Sampoerna Foundation provides the qualified individuals the opportunity to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration degree at leading business schools overseas.

What is covered?
This scholarship is worth approximately USD 70,000 – to USD 150,000 per student, depending on the country and university, for the duration of study and it covers:

The French Government, through the Embassy of France in Jakarta, has been providing excellence scholarships to Indonesian citizens for more than 25 years. In order to pursue its objective to improve Indonesian human resources, the Embassy of France will offer scholarships for the year 2006. These scholarships are given to government officials, lecturers, students (with a priority to those involved in a cooperation program between France and Indonesia) to undertake three kinds of training :
Master degree (maximum duration of 2 years)
Doctoral degree (maximum duration of 3 years, only on a shared cost basis)
Post-Doctoral program (maximum duration of 6 months, only on a shared cost basis)

In this regard, LB is pleased to offer scholarships and financial assistance to deserving Indonesian students who intend to pursue their tertiary education at a university in Indonesia.

Accepted applicants must be willing to participate in any LB programs and activities such as internship program at LB or any of its affiliated companies;
Scholarship recipients are prohibited from holding a job throughout the period of study.

II. COVERAGE OF SCHOLARSHIP:

The scholarship shall cover the following:
Registration fees at the university at which the scholarship recipient is enrolled;
Tuition fee for the duration of study, not exceeding 4 (four) years or 8 (eight) academic semesters or less depending on the program selected. LB is not obligated to provide any further funding or other assistance should the scholarship recipient does not finish the course of study within the given time frame;
Living allowance to cover living expenses throughout the period of study;
Book allowance required for study;
Internet allowance to access internet for study purpose;
A personal computer;
Research allowance required for final-year research study.
III. WORK OBLIGATION
During the period of study, scholarship recipient must be willing to participate in the internship program at LB.
Upon completion of undergraduate program, scholarship recipients are obliged to work for LB and/or its affiliations for a period of 4 consecutive years subject to job’s availability at LB and/or its affiliations.
